The Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC) is an annual event hosted by the Experimental Sounding Rocket Association (ESRA). The competition is internationally known, attracting teams from universities in many countries like Turkey, Canada and Puerto Rico in addition to some of the top aerospace schools in the United States. The goal is simple: carry a 10 pound scientific payload to a predetermined altitude. IREC gives the participating schools complete design freedom on how they want to accomplish the goal. At the conclusion of the 2014 IREC Competition, The University of Nebraska—Lincoln was awarded 3rd place for the project titled Muninn, reaching an altitude of 15,889 ft AGL.
